Rug & Upholstery Cleaning in Old Hickory, TN

The DuPont village went up in the 1920s, and its little houses still hold wool rugs on original boards. We clean them without moving them, which those narrow doorways appreciate.

Old Hickory Village is a company town that outlived its company: rows of 1920s cottages DuPont built for plant workers, now carefully kept homes with hundred-year-old floors and, frequently, rugs with real age of their own.

The other Old Hickory faces the water. Lakewood, Hadley Bend, and Brandywine Pointe live around the lake, with sunrooms and big glass walls that are glorious for the view and merciless on textiles.

Both halves get the same in-home service: a low-moisture carbonated clean that lifts the soil out, respects old wood, and finishes the same day it starts.

Hundred-year-old floors under Village wool

Cleaning a rug over century-old boards is mostly a question of restraint. The solution goes in sparingly, the carbonation takes on the job that water volume would otherwise be asked to do, and extraction retrieves soil and moisture together before anything can reach the wood beneath. Older rugs get the full caution sequence first: fiber confirmed, then one concealed corner wetted to learn how decades-old dye plans to behave. Only after the rug has answered do we clean the rest of it.

Doorways nothing has to fit through

Village cottages have narrow doors, tight halls, and no good geometry for carrying a rolled nine-foot rug out to a truck. Conveniently, we never ask them to. The entire cleaning happens with the rug flat on its floor and the furniture in its rooms; the only things that pass through those 1920s doorframes are the technician and the equipment, both of which fit fine. An hour after we finish, the rug is back at work.

Sun off the lake at Brandywine Pointe

Lakeside glass doubles the light and the damage: direct sun plus reflection off the water, working on rug borders and sofa arms all afternoon, every afternoon. Some of what looks like fading is soil dulling the color, and that cleans out beautifully. Some of it is dye the sun has genuinely destroyed, and that is gone; no cleaning recovers it, and we will show you the difference at the walkthrough rather bluntly. Rotating rugs seasonally and keeping sheers drawn through summer slows the loss more than anything sold in a bottle.

Rug and upholstery questions from Old Hickory homeowners

Our Village rug came with the house. Is it safe to clean?

Usually, and the test decides. Wool of that era generally takes a low-moisture clean well when its dye is stable, so we check a hidden corner first and let the result rule. If the rug fails the test, we tell you what we saw and leave it be. Some pieces have earned the right to be left alone.

The fringe is unraveling. Do you rebuild it?

No. Rebuilding fringe is weaving, a genuine craft we respect too much to imitate, and a cleaning does not fix unraveling. We handle fringe gently during the clean and can point you toward the kind of work a textile restorer does.

Does lake humidity slow the drying?

Not meaningfully. Extraction removes most of the moisture with the soil, so rugs take traffic in about an hour and upholstery is ready in one to two even in a July that feels like soup. The water we take out matters far more than the humidity that stays.

How often should pieces out here be cleaned?

Twelve to eighteen months as a baseline. Go annual for dog households and for lake houses with steady sand-and-sunscreen traffic through the sunroom, which describes roughly half of Brandywine Pointe in any given June.
