Rug & Upholstery Cleaning in San Antonio, TX
San Antonio dirt is mostly limestone. It grinds down into wool and packs into cushion seams, and a vacuum only ever gets the top layer of it.
Bexar County is built on rock. Every caliche shoulder, every unpaved lot line, every cut for a new road on the north side puts a pale mineral powder into the air, and the wind carries it across the whole city. It lands in your house. You rarely see it as dirt. You feel it later, when a wool pile that used to be soft has gone stiff, because that powder is abrasive and it has settled all the way down against the backing where nothing reaches it.
Then there is the pollen. Ashe juniper runs from around Christmas through February and dusts the north and west sides so heavily you can watch it drift off the hills. Live oak follows in spring and drops catkins by the bagful onto porches and into doorways. Both get walked in, and both end up in the same place: the base of the rug and the inside of the sofa cushion, under everything a vacuum head can pull on.
Safe-Dry® works on rugs and upholstery inside the house, all over the city. The 78201 and 78207 bungalows west of downtown. King William's tall front rooms and the Southtown conversions along South Alamo. Tobin Hill duplexes, Monte Vista, Olmos Park, Alamo Heights, Castle Hills, Shavano Park, Hollywood Park, and the newer two-story houses up on the Stone Oak hills. One number covers it: 210-460-2210.
Limestone grit from 1604 north to the Southside
Mineral dust behaves differently from ordinary household soil. It has edges. Every footstep across a rug drags those edges through the yarn, and over a few years that is what dulls a pattern, not staining. The fix is mechanical: get the grit out of the base of the pile instead of skimming the top. Our solution goes down light and carbonated, with no soap in it at all, and the fizz floats the embedded soil up where it can be reached. The extraction head then pulls it back out along with the small amount of water we put in. Nothing gets flooded, nothing gets rolled up and driven to a plant, and nothing sits in a warehouse for two weeks with a claim ticket stapled to it.
Old wool in King William and Monte Vista
The near-downtown historic districts are full of rugs older than most of the people who own them. Hand-knotted wool that came with a house purchase in 1974. A Persian bought on a posting and shipped home. Dyes from the 1920s and 1930s were not made to modern standards and they do not all behave, so every job opens with two things: identifying what the fiber actually is, and testing an inconspicuous edge to see whether the color holds. Wool, silk, cotton, jute, and synthetics all want a different hand, and the test decides it before any cleaning starts. If the reds are unstable, you find that out from us on a hidden corner instead of finding it out on your living room floor.
Cedar fever season on the Bexar County Northside
Households with allergy sufferers usually want an annual cleaning, and December through February is when people notice why. The same goes for homes with dogs and small kids. If the issue is odor and not soil, that is a separate treatment: enzymes that break the residue apart chemically, so the smell stops because the thing causing it is gone. Fragrance products only hold for a week or so and then you are back where you started. For an average San Antonio household without pets, twelve to eighteen months between cleanings is about right.
Leather, Sunbrella, and a San Antonio den
Leather and faux leather both get serviced. The cleaning is gentle and it is followed by conditioning that pulls surface oils off the hide without leaving it dry or cracked. Performance fabrics like Sunbrella and Crypton keep their protective finish intact. Cushions come off one at a time, get cleaned right there on the piece, and go back where they belong. What we do not take on is re-upholstery, foam replacement, reweaving, fringe repair, or putting pigment back into leather. Those are shop jobs and we are not a shop.
Wondering if that couch is worth cleaning or due for replacement? There are three checks you can run yourself in a couple of minutes, and they will tell you which side of the line it sits on before anyone quotes you.
Rug and upholstery jobs we handle in San Antonio
San Antonio spreads across a lot of ground and the housing does not repeat itself. A 1920s bungalow off Woodlawn, a downtown loft, and a five-bedroom on the north hills all collect soil differently, so the walkthrough matters more here than it would in a subdivision where every floor plan is the same. We price the job in person once we have looked at the actual pieces, and the number we give you is what you pay.

Rug and upholstery questions from San Antonio homeowners
The rug lives under the dining table and that table is not moving. Is that a problem?
No. We clean around fixed furniture constantly in the older houses here, where a table was built into a room and never really leaves it. We clean it lying flat, in position, taking the open field and as much beneath the table legs as the wand will reach. Nothing has to be dragged out to the porch.
Can you get in and out before school pickup?
Usually, yes. Most single-room jobs run under two hours from walkthrough to packing up. After that the rug takes roughly an hour to be walkable again and upholstery wants a little more, so a mid-morning start has the house back to normal well before the afternoon.
My grandmother's rug has a stain nobody can identify. Will it come out?
Maybe. Old set stains and ink often will not, and there is a second category that is not a stain at all: dye that migrated years ago, sun bleaching along a window line, bleach spots where the color is simply missing, worn-through nap, and moth holes. None of those clean out. We look at the piece, tell you which category yours falls in, and we say it before you pay for anything, not after the invoice.
Does the house smell like chemicals when you leave?
It does not. The solution carries no soap and no detergent, which also means no tacky film left in the fiber for fresh limestone dust to stick to. That residue is the reason a cheaply cleaned rug re-soils faster than it did before.
