Rug & Upholstery Cleaning in Riverstone, TX

Riverstone was built with water running through it, and the rugs inside those houses are often the water-shy kind. Fiber identification comes before anything gets damp.

Many of the rugs bought new for these houses between 2005 and 2015 are viscose, sold under names like art silk, banana silk or bamboo silk. They look wonderful under the chandelier in an Avalon dining room. They are also wood pulp, and wood pulp goes yellow, stiff and permanently marked if somebody treats it like wool and wets it down.

That is the best argument there is for identifying the fiber before the first drop of anything lands. The tech burns nothing and guesses nothing; the test is quick, and the answer changes the whole approach. Wool takes one method, viscose another, cotton flatweaves another, jute another still.

After the fiber, the dye. A hidden edge gets damped and watched. Hand-knotted pieces brought here from Iran, Turkey, India or Pakistan can carry dyes that behave nothing like a factory rug made this decade, and it is better to learn that on half an inch of border.

The Waterside viscose problem, and how it gets handled

Viscose is not a defect, it just has to be treated as what it is. The pile flattens and shades where anyone walks, water rings mark it, and a wet-heavy method can turn a pale rug the color of weak tea. Our pass is low-moisture and carbonated to begin with, which suits it: soil is brought to the surface and taken away with most of the small amount of moisture applied. Even so there are limits, and you will hear which marks on a viscose piece are staying. Nobody here is going to promise a rug that comes back looking new when it will not.

Brazos Landing air and furniture that stays damp

The lakes and the Gulf air together keep humidity high year-round in this corner of Fort Bend, and it shows up in furniture. A cushion soaked in a heavy cleaning does not give the water back quickly here; it holds it in the foam and starts to smell sour. Cleaning cushions individually and in place, with very little water going in and most of it coming straight back out, avoids the whole problem. A sofa done in the morning is fine to sit on by early afternoon.

Providence and Auburn Manor dining chairs

Upholstered dining chairs are the most-used and least-cleaned furniture in a house. Backs collect hand oil, seats collect everything else, and cream linen in a Providence dining room shows all of it. Each chair gets a hidden-area test, then the same low-moisture treatment, done on the spot at the table. Eight chairs is not an all-day job. Sunbrella and Crypton seats keep their protective finish. If a seat carries a mark from an evening nobody wants to discuss, you get an honest answer on whether it is coming out.

Wondering if that couch is worth cleaning or due for replacement? There are three checks you can run yourself in a couple of minutes, and they will tell you which side of the line it sits on before anyone quotes you.

Rug and upholstery questions from Riverstone homeowners

The rug seller told us never to get this one wet. Should I even call you?

Yes, and tell the tech exactly what you were told. If the piece is viscose, that advice was mostly sound, and it is why the fiber check leads the visit. Our approach uses a small volume of moisture and pulls it back out with the soil, which is a different animal from an immersion wash.

How much of my day does this take?

A rug and a sectional together are usually a two to three hour visit including the walkthrough. Drying runs on its own after that: roughly an hour for the rug, one to two for the furniture.

Do you clean the rug pad underneath as well?

We lift the rug, deal with what is underneath, and set it back. A pad that has taken a lot of pet urine is often better replaced than cleaned, and we say so when that is what we find. Selling replacement pads is not something we do, so there is nothing in it for us either way.
